Rust Remover Chemical Supplier in Sohar for Ships and Steel Plants
October 27, 2026
If rust on ship decks, steel pipes or plant structures is holding up painting or maintenance in Sohar, order RXSOL Rust Remover. It is an acid-based rust and scale remover that we supply from our Barka warehouse. For ferrous steel on vessels and in plants, start medium rust at 1 part product with 1-3 parts water and use a stronger mix for heavy rust. If you need a non-hazardous, neutral pH product for immersion tanks or air shipment, we also offer Rust Remover Safe. Tell us the metal, the rust level and the area, and we will quote the right grade.
Why rust builds up quickly around Sohar
Steel at Sohar port and in the Sohar industrial zone sits in salty coastal air, high heat and humidity for most of the year. Chlorides from sea spray get under paint films and keep the steel surface damp. As a result, iron oxide forms fast on deck fittings, handrails, pipe racks, tank shells and fabricated sections.
Wire brushing and grinding take off loose rust, but they are slow on bolted assemblies, threads and corners, and they leave rust in pits. A chemical rust remover reaches those areas and prepares the steel for coating with less mechanical work.
What RXSOL Rust Remover does
RXSOL Rust Remover is a concentrated, acid-based cleaning and descaling compound. It removes rust, iron oxide, corrosion deposits, mineral scale and oxidation from ferrous metal surfaces. It penetrates and reacts with rust deposits, loosening and dissolving iron oxides, so your crew can clean the surface with less scraping and wire brushing. It rinses off with water and can be applied by brushing, spraying, soaking or circulation, depending on the equipment.
Our RXSOL Rust Remover concentrate (RXSOL-16-1088-020) is designed for rapid removal of rust and leaves a phosphatized ferrous metal surface, so it works as a pre-treatment for metal surfaces to be painted. The same chemistry is also listed as RXSOL Rust Remover (RXSOL-16-1088-025).
For tanks and machinery there is the tank cleaning grade of rust remover (RXSOL-16-1088-210). After a degreasing cleaning operation, if rust or scale stains remain on the metal surface, use 10 to 50% of this grade with fresh water for 20-30 minutes. It can also clean centrifuge discs without dismantling the disc stacks, which improves the efficiency of the centrifuge installation.
How to use it: dilution and method
Before you start, the surface should be free from loose materials, flaking paint, dirt or oil. Then choose the strength by the degree of rust:
- Heavy rust and severe corrosion deposits: RXSOL Rust Remover may be used neat or at high concentration, subject to the substrate and the approved product formulation.
- Medium rust: a typical starting dilution of 1 part product with 1-3 parts water.
- Light rust, oxidation and routine maintenance: dilution may be increased to approximately 1:5 to 1:10 with water.
- Brush application: in most cases a diluted solution of RXSOL-16-1088-025 ranging from 10-50% is applied by brush.
Apply the prepared solution evenly with a suitable acid-resistant brush, spray equipment or immersion tank. Allow sufficient contact time for the rust to soften and dissolve. Agitation or brushing can speed up removal of stubborn deposits.
Do not allow the product to dry on the surface. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with fresh water. Where required, neutralise the surface and protect it against flash rusting before painting. Objects may appear black after being soaked, but should return to their original colour after being rinsed in water.
Always add the product to water when preparing dilutions. Use chemical-resistant gloves, protective clothing and eye and face protection during handling. R 34: Causes burns. S 26: On contact with eyes, wash eye ball immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. Do not eat, drink or smoke while handling it.
Metals to keep it away from
The acid grade is intended mainly for compatible ferrous metal surfaces, because acidic rust removers can attack sensitive materials. Avoid uncontrolled application on aluminium, zinc, galvanized steel, magnesium, marble, limestone and other acid-sensitive surfaces. Compatibility with stainless steel and non-ferrous alloys depends on the specific acid chemistry, concentration, temperature and exposure time.
This matters on Sohar sites, where carbon steel often sits next to galvanised gratings, aluminium cladding and stainless fittings. Carry out a small compatibility test before treating an unfamiliar substrate, and mask off anything you are not sure of.
Rust Remover Safe for immersion tanks and air freight
Rust Remover Safe (RXSOL-18-1015-025) is a biodegradable, non-hazardous and non-flammable rust remover, so it can even be shipped by air. It is a neutral pH oxidation remover for steels, iron, aluminium and copper, and it works best in a heated immersion or spray application.
In immersion tanks, use it from neat to 10:1. For pressure washing, use it at 10:1. It operates from ambient to 160° F and works fastest at 120° F to 160° F, especially on heavily rusted metals. You can reuse the solution to dissolve rust again and again, which suits cleaning batches of nuts, bolts, tools and spare parts.
Where our rust remover is recommended
The acid grade is recommended for rust and corrosion on ship decks and steel structures, marine equipment and machinery, and engine-room components. It is also recommended for steel pipes and pipelines, tanks and fabricated steel sections, heat-transfer equipment where compatible, and rusted steel before painting or coating.
For nuts, bolts, tools, mechanical components and workshop equipment, either grade can be considered. Rust Remover Safe suits jobs that include aluminium or copper, or that run in a heated dip tank.

Frequently asked questions
Which rust remover should I order for ship decks and steel structures?
Order the acid grade, RXSOL-16-1088-025. Use it neat or at high concentration on heavy rust, and at 1 part product with 1-3 parts water on medium rust. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water afterwards.
Can I use it on galvanised steel or aluminium?
Avoid uncontrolled application of the acid grade on aluminium, zinc, galvanized steel and magnesium. For mixed metal parts, Rust Remover Safe is a neutral pH product designed for steels, iron, aluminium and copper. Run a small compatibility test on any unfamiliar substrate first.
What do I do after the rust is removed?
Do not let the product dry on the surface. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water, neutralise where required and protect the steel against flash rusting before you paint. Parts that look black after soaking should return to their original colour once rinsed.
Can rust remover be sent by air to a ship?
Rust Remover Safe (RXSOL-18-1015-025) is non-hazardous and non-flammable, so it can be shipped by air. The acid grade causes burns, so ask us about delivery arrangements when you request a quote.
