Calcined diatomaceous earth has been treated at a temperature above 1500F to agglomerate the exoskeletons of the diatoms in order to create a range of permeabilities for better filtering agents. While it is used primarily as a fine filter aid, it has many other uses.
Application. Hyflo® Super Cel® may be used for the separation of mucopolysachharides by electrophoresis. It may be employed as filter aid during the preparation of protein renin isolated from horse plasma.
Filter aid, Celite Hyflo Super-cel« is used as a filtration agent, a functional filler in paints, plastics, paper, rubber, adhesives, catalysts, agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals and other chemicals, and a mild abrasive in polishes and cleaners.
