Capric acid is used in the manufacture of esters for artificial fruit flavors and perfumes. 
It is also used as an intermediate in chemical syntheses. 
It is used in organic synthesis and industrially in the manufacture of perfumes, lubricants, greases, rubber, 
dyes, plastics, food additives and pharmaceuticals.


Caprylic acid is one of the fatty acids found in coconut oil. It's a medium-chain fatty acid believed to have potent antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. These properties may make caprylic acid a helpful remedy for many conditions.


The mixture of 65 mol% capric acid and 35 mol% lauric acid (C–L acid) is a potential latent heat storage material. However, its melting temperature of  is quite high for low-temperature thermal energy storage. Addition of pentadecane, with a melting point of , is proposed .
