Acetyl chloride appears as a colorless, fuming liquid with a pungent odor. Density 9.2 lb / gal. Flash point 40°F. Vapor, which is heavier than air, irritates the eyes and mucous membranes. Corrosive to metals and tissue .
MAJOR APPLICATIONS Used as acetylating agent in chemical synthesis.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS Causes severe burn to every area of contact. May be fatal if swallowed or inhaled.
Caution: Vapours cause severe irritation to eyes and respiratory track.
Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If
breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention immediately.
Ingestion: If swallowed do not induces vomiting. Give large quantities of water. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention
